Mō te tūnga | About the role
The Te Tai Tokerau region operates 4 homes comprised of 2 being Kaupapa Maori, 1 is Short Term stays and 1 is an Emergency whare. When the caregivers have breaks of about 2 to 15 days, Family Home Relievers continue to provide the routine and maintain a safe, caring, responsible and supportive family environment on a 24/7 basis. The role includes cooking, shopping, recreation activities, helping with homework and supervision etc. The caregiver provides a detailed handover to the reliever. A designated social worker in the Family Homes team liaises with each home and provides the reliever with regular clinical supervision. The social worker for the tamariki provides the care plan for the tamariki and so we're looking for candidates who can also ensure that the activities are carried out and are consistent with the care plan and handover instructions.
An ideal candidate for this role is someone who has flexibility to be available 24 hours per day for a minimum of 4 days in a row and is committed to maintaining a safe, caring, responsible and supportive family environment in the family home. In Oranga Tamariki we're looking for candidates who will be familiar with the care plan for the child/young person and make sure that the activities are carried out and are consistent with the care plan.
Depending on the availability of the candidate, the role may suit someone who only wants occasional work, as much as someone who wants more frequent hours of work.
