The details: Permanent full-time, 80 hours per fortnight (1.0 FTE)
Reporting to the Executive Director Hospital & Community Services, the Operations Director will lead transformational change and take overall responsibility for the success of operations and performance in their directorate of over 1500 people. That success involves developing strong inter-professional teams by partnering with the Medical Director, Nurse Director and Allied Health, Scientific & Technical Director to foster a collaborative environment that delivers safe, high quality and effective health care. A particular focus includes continued development of our intensive care services and enhanced access to cardiac surgery and planned care.
This is a role that requires your ability to bring people together, inspiring and empowering them to lead and make decisions, but you’ll also need to influence thinking and make difficult calls when required.
Your success in this role also requires:
• 10+ years experience in a senior operational and strategic leadership role preferably in health.
• Proven ability to positively lead, motivate and achieve results in a large, complex service through a multi-disciplinary team of senior professionals and leaders
• A track record of successful improvements and initiatives within a complex health-related environment.
• Strong commercial business acumen and the financial management skills to achieve financial stability.

Waikato Hospital in Hamilton is one of New Zealand’s largest tertiary, teaching hospitals with over 600 inpatient beds and 22 operating theatres. Clinical specialities include Women’s and Children Services, Cardiology / Cardiothoracic Surgery, Oncology and Haematology, Surgical services, and Mental Health and Addiction. Waikato Hospital is the Midland regional referral centre for multiple specialties including trauma surgery, oncology, and neurology.
