Here is an opportunity to join our dedicated and supportive Adults Social Work team at Auckland City Hospital. Our team provides social work services to patients and their families who may be experiencing grief and loss associated with sudden or chronic injury or ill health; poor diagnosis; end of life and sudden death. The work also includes responding to family violence, elder abuse and neglect, child protection issues, patients lacking in capacity and patients presenting with treatment non-adherence.
Working from a trauma-informed, relationship-based practice approach, you will have the opportunity to sensitively assess a broad range of complex social situations and foster positive engagement with people from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds. You will work together with your clients to strengthen their broader health and wellbeing.
This senior social work position requires a confident ability to contribute social work assessment, planning and interventions. You will be working as part of interdisciplinary team providing high quality in-patient care to older people and their families. Social Work practice experience working with older people in an in-patient and/or community setting would be a distinct advantage.

As the ideal person for this role, you will be an experienced senior social worker with current NZ registration and APC. You will have experience in health social work, grief and loss, child protection and family violence intervention with the ability to work autonomously in a bicultural hospital environment. You will have experience supporting and developing less experienced staff to increase their skill, competence and confidence. You will have a positive outlook, be a sound team player and have a passion for achieving excellent outcomes with and for older people.
Your strengths in multi-agency and inter-agency collaboration and advocacy will support you to navigate complex dynamics as you hold the needs and best interests of the patient and whānau in view. A passion for helping to create a safe space for tangata whenua and tauiwi within the patient health context is welcomed.
Once you have completed a thorough orientation to your role and the relevant resources and processes, you will be expected to contribute to our after hours on-site and on-call rosters (with the support of a social work practice supervisor).
You will also have a full, clean class 1 driver’s licence.
