The Auckland Regional Forensic Psychiatry Service, or the Mason Clinic as it is often known, is the largest Forensic Mental Health Service in New Zealand. We serve the four Northern District Health Boards including all courts in the northern region and five prisons.
We deliver a comprehensive range of Forensic Mental Health Services, including secure inpatient acute and rehabilitation services which connect to community rehabilitation services, services for offenders with an intellectual disability, culture specific programmes for Māori, court liaison and prison mental health services. This includes a regional service to Northland Region Corrections Facility at Ngawha and Northland.

We continue to develop our services to support tikanga Māori within our facility and are looking to recruit a Taurawhiri – Cultural Advisor.
We are looking for someone who has a strong understanding of whanaungatanga, confident in Te Reo Māori and has experiences in Māori health care to work as an integral part of our Forensic Prison Team. The Taurawhiri will be responsible for providing Tikanga Māori cultural assessments to support an appropriate treatment pathway for Māori service users on the forensic caseload.
Essential
- Confident speaker of Te Reo Māori
- Knowledge of Māori community networks
- Understanding of Māori social and health issues
- Knowledge of whakapapa, whaikorero, karakia
- Strong communicator
- Full drivers licence
Desired
- Work experience in Mental Health organisations
- Knowledge of substance abuse programmes
- A Bachelor of Māori Studies
