Due to an internal promotion, we currently have an opportunity for a Senior Solicitor to join our Corporate Legal Team, which sits within the FMA's broader General Counsel function. The Corporate Legal team is responsible for the provision of pragmatic, high quality and effective legal advice required by the FMA to achieve its objectives.
The team is highly engaged, vibrant and collaborative, and is based across our Auckland and Wellington offices. We are open to this role being based in either location. The work we do is varied and intellectually challenging, and in this role, you'll collaborate with other Corporate Legal and General Counsel team members on a broad range of legal issues.

This is an in-house legal role with a wide range of responsibilities including -
- working with the FMA's front line operational teams to manage legal issues in relation to our engagement with market participants and the regulation of New Zealand's capital markets and financial services,
- engaging with market participants and their advisers in relation to legal issues,
- providing advice within the FMA on the use of regulatory tools (such as stop orders, warnings, and licensing actions) in response to non-compliance,
- leading individual exemptions and designations and providing advice within the FMA on class exemptions and designations, and
- contributing to policy development, FMA guidance, law reform, and key projects within the FMA.
Ideally you will have 8 years+ financial services experience and regulatory or government experience is also desirable (but not necessary)., You will enjoy thinking through interesting and novel legal issues and your drive, enthusiasm, self-motivation and confidence will contribute to your success in this role.
