The Service Leader is responsible for the day to day leadership and management of the Respiratory and Immunology Services. They are responsible for leading the nursing and technical teams and working closely with the Clinical Leader(s) to ensure the delivery of safe and effective care to all patients. The Service Leader will also when required contribute to the delivery of clinical care through out-patient, ambulatory or diagnostic clinics.
Current medical staffing totals 6.75 FTE, split among 9 individuals. There are 4 full time registrars in respiratory medicine; two respiratory and one sleep registrar advanced trainee posts, one basic trainee post and a house physician.
The nursing team comprises 2.75 FTE split between 2 clinical nurse specialists and 2 RNs working across respiratory and sleep medicine, and the immunology service.
The Clinical Physiology team consists of 4.9 FTE made up of 6 individuals providing pulmonary function diagnostic testing services across Wellington and Kenepuru Hospitals. The team provides a range of core and complex pulmonary function testing to support the respiratory and other specialist clinics, and primary health care, manages the provision of CPAP systems for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnoea and the provision of NIV therapy for respiratory failure in collaboration with the medical and nursing teams. The physiology team also provides support to the bronchoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound procedures in theatres.

Respiratory Medicine is based in the Clinical Measurement Unit at Wellington Regional Hospital. It provides outpatient services at Wellington and Kenepuru hospitals and inpatient services at Wellington Regional Hospital. The service is supported by a fully equipped pulmonary function laboratory with core and complex testing. Outreach clinics are provided at Hutt and Masterton hospitals and community clinics are in development.

You will have knowledge and experience of working within the Respiratory Medicine service and a proven track record in service development, delivery and improvement. Having previous experience in a leadership/management role in the health sector, you will use your established credibility within the profession to achieve equitable health outcomes with a commitment to Health and Independence Improvement goals and ongoing learning for yourself and all team members.
