EOI - Emergency Medical Physicians - Specialist and Non-Specialist at Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand Waitematā, Auckland

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

Specialist Emergency Medicine Physicians

and

Non-Specialist Senior Medical Officers (SMO) /Emergency Medicine Fellows

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.

At this time more than ever, Te Whatu Ora Waitematā is working towards creating an Emergency Service with a focus on delivering excellent emergency care.

About the Role

You will be joining an open, energetic, and friendly Emergency Medicine team with a culture of collaboration, support and curiosity. We will challenge you to continue to develop your interests and skills. We are passionate about what we do.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Waitematā Emergency Departments at North Shore and Waitākere service the largest district by population in the country with a diverse range of presentations. As a service we are committed to a culture of high performance, clinical innovation and teamwork.

At North Shore Hospital (NSH) you will be serving a population with good access to primary care. We have an admission rate of approximately 35%. A third of the presentations are over 65, so your challenges will include dealing with acutely unwell or injured older adults, where your immediate interventions will have a profound effect on patient outcomes.

At Waitākere Hospital (WTH) you will be working in one of the fastest growing, multicultural EDs in the country, with a significant paediatric population. At WTH ED you will need to lead and provide resuscitative care and arrange transport for all deteriorating patients without the direct involvement of speciality services like ICU because these are based at NSH.

About you

This role will give you a unique opportunity to work across two sites offering exposure to two very different patient populations. Both sites have an annual presentation rate of around 50,000 emergency patients.

For the Non-Specialist roles, you will be supported by team of Emergency Medicine Specialist Physicians.

If you are looking at relocating with family Waitematā may also have options for your partner, with many opportunities for employment across the specialty services.

Both hospitals are easily accessible from central Auckland giving you an opportunity to base yourself anywhere in the Auckland region. Auckland’s North Shore is one of Auckland's most desirable locales, combining well-established urban areas with pockets of native bush, golden beaches, and thriving café culture. There are many quality options for public, private and integrated schooling in the area. Waitākere is in West Auckland which is an area known for rugged hills, pristine native bush, scenic waterfalls , walking and biking tracks, as well as black sand surf beaches . There's also a great sense of community spirit that binds the diverse population

Interested applicants must comply with the following:

  • Possess a Medical Degree registrable with the Medical Council of New Zealand
  • For non-specialist senior doctor positions- Have reasonable experience working or training in Emergency Medicine
  • For Specialist positions - have the Fellowship of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine or a similar higher training qualification eligible for vocations registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
