Speech and Language Therapist / Kaiwhakatikatika Reo Kōrero (ORA) at Capital & Coast District Health Board (Wellington), Wellington Hospital

Service: ORA Speech-Language Therapy 

Contract: Permanent, Full-Time (open to applications from those interested in 0.8 - 1.0FTE)

Salary: $62,671-$80,292 depending on level of experience

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

We are looking for a Speech-Language Therapist (SLT) to join our thriving team of 17 SLTs who work across paediatric and adult caseloads in acute, rehabilitation, outpatient and community settings. Our SLT team at Wellington Regional Hospital is comprised of six therapists, supported by both a team leader and a professional leader. The successful applicant will be required to diagnose and treat adult patients with a wide range of communication and swallowing disorders. The caseload will include acute adult inpatients with both medical and surgical diagnoses. The post-holder may also have a small outpatient caseload, largely covering voice and airway disorders and dysphagia. The specific areas of practice will be confirmed with the successful applicant depending on their knowledge and level of experience. The post-holder will represent SLT on multi-disciplinary teams.

Moū - About you

The ideal applicant will have at least three years- experience working adults with acquired communication and swallowing disorders, preferably in an acute inpatient setting. While it is not essential, it would be desirable for the successful candidate to have experience in intensive/critical care.  You must be able to demonstrate sound clinical reasoning, good communication skills, the ability to work independently and to quickly build strong working relationships.  Excellent time management and prioritisation skills are a must. Experience in videofluoroscopy and/or flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing are desired. 

We expect a commitment to and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application to health, as well as a willingness to work towards improving health outcomes for Māori.
