Clinical Leader Speech Language Therapy (Full Time) Child Development Team, CM Health at Counties Manukau District Health Board (South Auckland), Auckland

Are you a passionate, dynamic and an enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapist and ready to take on a new challenge in your career. Looking to make a difference for tamariki and their whanaau. An opportunity has arisen to lead and support the Speech and Language therapists within Kidz First Community Child Development Team (CDT). The team is based at Kidz First Community Health in Manukau, South Auckland. In this role you will be supported by a team of Speech Language Therapists, a Professional Leader and a Team Leader.

 

Within the role you will provide clinical leadership and oversight to the Speech Therapy service whilst maintaining a clinical case load. You will work in partnership with the patient, whaanau and other health care providers in order to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate outcomes of care.

 

We work with a paediatric population (predominately birth to 3 years) with a range of feeding, swallowing and communication difficulties, across community settings. You will assess, diagnose and treat patients accordingly. You will be involved in carrying out Videofluoroscopic Swallow Studies alongside the inpatient SLT.

 

You will also assess and provide intervention to children in both an individual and group setting.

 

Another component of this role is the opportunity to work alongside the Paediatricians and Psychologists in a multidisciplinary clinic to assess complex children, particularly those who potentially have Autism Spectrum Disorder, Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder or Global Developmental Delay. You will manage SLT referrals within the service and contribute and participate in service design and delivery.

 

The preferred candidate will be someone who is an excellent communicator whilst honouring cultural diversity. An ability to effectively organise your caseload, whilst prioritising tasks, would be imperative in order to be successful in this role.

 

About you:

As the ideal candidate you will have:

  • Proven knowledge and expertise (4-5 years’ experience) in the management of tamariki (birth-3 years) with a range of feeding, swallowing and communication difficulties, across community settings
  • Recent experience working within an DHB setting
  • Experience working within a multi-disciplinary setting and as part of a team
  • A passion for working with tamariki and advocating for their specific needs

 

Essential

  • Registration with the New Zealand Speech-Language Therapists Association and up to date APC
  • A full, clean driver’s licence
  • At least 4 - 5 years experience with a paediatric caseload
  • Experience in paediatric dysphagia
