Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

We have a vacancy for a motivated and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist, to join our integrated multi-disciplinary team. 

You will be working autonomously and alongside a multi-disciplinary team consisting of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, occupational therapist, addiction clinicians, detox and registered mental health nurses and intake triage team.

The Occupational Therapy role within the team is one of care-co-ordinator that focuses on assessments, treatment and goal setting in partnership with the clients/family. The role also involves on-going treatment, monitoring and discharge planning. You will be expected to undertake comprehensive assessments and risk management plans, functional assessments. Provide individual/group counselling pertaining to specific health discipline, case manage and coordinate care for tangata whaiora/consumers and their families.

The role is part of the Multidisciplinary Team approach based in the community but also works across all areas of Mental Health and Addiction Services within MHAIDS

• Ability to work in a team and within the wider Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) 
• Committed to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi
• Practicing in a manner that tangata whaiora/consumers determine as being culturally safe
• Working effectively with the tangata whaiora/consumers/whanau in community environment
• Demonstrated competence in communicating with a wide range of people, leading meetings and documenting outcomes and plans
• Has a friendly manner and a positive sense of humour
  

DUTIES

• Provide mental health input through assessment,  treatment planning and reviews and have recovery focus of tangata whaiora/consumers/family
• Provide effective quality Occupational Therapy services to clients with experiences of moderate to severe mental illness and addiction 
• Coordinate  intensive intervention in a care management for tangata whaiora in crisis when appropriate
• Undertake comprehensive psychiatric assessments 
• Formulate and develop risk management plans articulating treatment needs 
• Case management and coordinate care for tangata whaiora/consumers and their families/whanau. 
• Liaison with other health providers and MHAIDS teams, NGOs, PHOs social and government agencies to facilitate care and treatments for service users.
• Daily clinical documentation of all activities including tangata whaiora and whanau contacts 
• Daily data entry of all activities
• Participates in and contributes to service planning and development quality projects
• Undertake Duty calls and responses as allocated by Clinical coordinator 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Post Graduate certificate in Mental Health care and treatment or relevant documentation
• Good written and verbal communications skills
• Demonstrate team approach and commitment to providing person / family centered care, using current evidence to assist people to achieve their optimum health
• Demonstrated competence in communicating with a wide range of people, leading meetings and documenting outcomes and plans.
• Skilled and competent with computer programmes 
• Skilled and experienced working with people with moderate to severe mental health issues and Addictions
