At Counties Manukau Health people and their lives matter to us. Our community based District Wide Mental Health Service, is seeking a Peer Support Specialist to join the Maternal Mental Health Team. Located within the Counties Manukau area, our Perinatal Services engage with women in pregnancy and the postpartum, and their whaanau, along their recovery journey. 
 

This specialist service provides assessment and treatment for this population, and skills working with families in this context would be a distinct advantage. 

 

As a Peer Support Specialist you will work within our culturally diverse community, providing peer support, and recovery coaching to people who are working towards their mental health recovery. You will be supporting people in the location of their choice: their home, in a clinical setting or a location in the community. You could also be involved in the facilitation of recovery group programmes.

 

You would be considered a member of our multi-disciplinary team and will have a role in providing a client perspective to our practice.

 

As you will be working within the unique and growing multicultural population of Counties Manukau, cultural proficiency and a willingness to learn would be an advantage. Essential
  • Peer Support Training Certificate is essential
  • Completed a programme in Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP) or similar
  • An ability to apply the Peer Support approach
  • An understanding of recovery concepts, pathways and values
  • Excellent verbal, written and computer literacy skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi and its application to health
  • A full clean driver’s licence is essential
