Senior Social Worker - Adult Allied Health (Part-Time) at Auckland District Health Board (Central Auckland), Auckland

Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Senior Social Worker with proven clinical competence to join our team. This role will see you focussing on specialist rehabilitation in our Mana Awhi | Older People’s Health wards. Working in a part-time, fixed term position (32 hours/week). Fixed Term until May 2023 based at Auckland City Hospital as part of the Adult Allied Health team your role will also include:

  • Provide comprehensive assessment and outcome focused innovative care, applying evidence-based practice, interventions and education within the area of speciality
  • This role is primarily clinical and includes a leadership/management component for less experienced staff
  • Working from a trauma-informed, relationship-based practice approach you will have the opportunity to sensitively assess a broad range of complex social situations and foster positive engagement with people from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds
  • Providing client / family / whānau centred care within an interdisciplinary team setting
  • While this role currently involves a Monday – Friday working week, it is possible that this will change to daytime rostered duties Monday – Sunday later in 2022

Once you have completed a thorough orientation to your new role and become familiar with it, you will join the after-hours on-site and on-call rosters. Substantial training and support specific to after-hours work will be provided to the successful applicant.

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills

We welcome your passion for helping to create a safe space for tangata whenua and tauiwi within the patient health context. As the ideal candidate for this role you have the following skills and attributes:

  • Evidence of current registration with the New Zealand Social Workers’ Registration Board and a current Annual Practicing Certificate
  • 6+ years post grad experience in health social work, grief and loss, vulnerable adults, child protection and family violence intervention
  • Previous practice experience with older people and in rehabilitation (advantageous)
  • Able to navigate complex dynamics as you hold the needs and best interests of the patient and whānau in view
  • Strong cultural knowledge; capacity to work effectively in a bicultural hospital environment
  • A genuine team player and your work history will reflect a sound work ethic
  • Leadership and advanced interpersonal communication skills

The work also includes responding to family violence, elder abuse and neglect, child protection issues, patients lacking in capacity and patients presenting with treatment non-adherence.
