As a Health Care Assistant, you will be part of our dedicated nursing environment with full support. Your role is to work within your team to assist nursing staff in care delivery, one-to-one patient watches and other tasks as directed. You could be assigned to ED, Paediatrics, Inpatients, Day Stay or any other department in the hospital.
Casual means that we contact you if we need to fill a shift. You can say yes or no! Although there are no fixed hours of work associated with casual employment, we are often able to give fixed times to cover planned leave. The roles are on an as required basis, and you could be offered shifts on any of the following shifts:
- Shift times
- AM 07.00-15.00
- PM: 15.00-23.00
- Night shifts: 23.00-07.00

You will have the ability to get on with a wide variety of people, have great communication skills and love helping people. You will have the ability to work in a flexible manner, demonstrating honesty and reliability. Good IT and organisational skills are a bonus.
We are open to applications from anyone who is interested in the health sector. Priority may be given to people with experience, but it is attitude and motivation that count. We will provide full training to anyone with little/no experience.
Mandatory requirements
As part of this training position, you will be expected to study for your NZQA Level 3 and /or Level 4: New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing - Health Assistance Strand, OR you may be studying nursing.
For the health and safety of staff and patients all NMH staff are required to be vaccinated in accordance with the COVID-19 Public Health Response (Vaccinations) Order 2021.
