Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced pharmacist specialised in medicines information provision and clinically experienced to join our Pharmacy Services team here at Waikato hospital, Health New Zealand - Waikato.
As a successful Senior Pharmacist – Medicines Information you will play a key role in overseeing, providing and developing medicines information and medicines safety initiatives for Waikato and the Te Manawa Taki region.
Day to day you will be working within a close, tight knit team, providing medicines information services, overseeing development of key medicines information and safety resources, training of others and being a key contact for our information service.
This is a full time permanent position where you will work Monday to Friday, an 8 hour shift with flexibility between 0730 – 1700. Our pharmacists in this particular team are usually rostered to work the occasional Saturday and can undertake on call duties if trained and required.
Key responsibilities of the role:
- Research, answer and document medicine information queries from a range of health professionals.
- Overall development of the medicines information service
- Create synergies with regional and national medicines safety health professionals
- Incorporate new technologies and data management into the medicines information and safety service
- Training and mentoring others

Providing pharmacy services to Waikato hospital, rural hospitals and tertiary advisory and support services to the Te Manawa Taki region, the Pharmacy Service is key to the effective operation of the district health service. From pharmaceutical supply, medicines safety and clinical services to provision of an outpatient pharmacy, comprehensive clinical trials service and a compounding suite, the pharmacy does it all. Mōu | About you
Skills and experience you’ll need to be considered for the role:
- 5+ years’ experience as a pharmacist, with at least 3+ years working as a pharmacist in a hospital setting.
- Full registration with Pharmacy Council of NZ, with a current Pharmacist Annual Practising Certificate (or to be gained within 3 months of supervised practise).
- Post-graduate qualification in clinical pharmacy advantageous.
- Previous medicines information and medicines safety initiative development desirable.
