Rheumatology SMO at Waikato District Health Board (Hamilton), Waikato

Where you’ll be working: Rheumatology Service, Waikato Hospital

The details: Permanent, 40 hours per week (1.0 FTE), rostered / rotating

 

We are seeking a passionate, committed Consultant Rheumatologist to join our dynamic, progressive and multidisciplinary department at Waikato Hospital, the largest tertiary hospital in New Zealand. The broad focus on patient care, research and education offers an excellent career opportunity.

At Waikato Hospital you will work in a collegial and supportive environment with 5 other Rheumatologists, 3 CNS, and 2 registrars who are committed to patient care, training and teamwork. The department also has a strong research profile and is involved in academic research and drug trials gaining access to treatments otherwise not available in New Zealand.

Waikato District Health Board has an academic division of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Science, University of Auckland onsite, along with a well-equipped clinical school which acts as a teaching and training centre for an increasing number of undergraduates and post graduate medical and allied health science students.

The candidate must have qualifications that would satisfy the requirements for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand and desirable to have a driver license. Hamilton is situated in the North Island of New Zealand along the banks of the Waikato river. The city has a population of 150,200 (source Stuff August 2016) and is approximately 2 hours south of Auckland. Beaches on the east and west coast are approximately 1 hours away and ski fields are under 3 hours’ drive time.

Waikato Hospital is the Midland regional referral centre for multiple specialties including trauma surgery, oncology, and neurology.
