Violence Intervention Programme Coordinator at Nelson Marlborough Health (Nelson/Blenheim), Nelson Region

  • Location: This is a district-wide position and can be located in Nelson or Marlborough
  • Permanent, 0.9 FTE position working 72 hours per fortnight

An exciting opportunity has arisen for someone to join our Violence Intervention Programme, with a focus on family harm and vulnerable adults.

Ngā mōhiohio e pā ana ki tēnei mahi (About this position)

In this role, you will use your understanding of family harm and child protection in the context of the health care sector to train and support Nelson Marlborough Health (NMH) staff on Family Harm and Child Protection issues. 

You will be implementing the Violence Intervention Programme (VIP) - a Ministry of Health programme - that reduces the harm from family violence by implementing an early intervention programme, identifying family harm and child protection in the health settings.

The role also involves establishing and maintaining regular contact with key community family harm intervention agencies and stakeholders to ensure collaborative management of family harm and at risk/vulnerable children.

Key skills/knowledge for this position include the following:

  • Experience in delivering adult education.
  • The ability to review and develop policies and guidelines.
  • Self-motivation, the ability to prioritise time and resources and think outside the square.
  • Understanding of the Tiriti O Waitangi, Whānau Ora and implications in clinical practice
  • The ability to implement quality improvement practices along with knowledge of quality improvement methodology and audit is desirable.
  • Computer literacy (including using Microsoft office products and MS team) and experienced in using databases and patient management systems.
  • Knowledge of the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989 and Domestic Violence Act 2018 along with other relevant legislation and its application in health settings
  • The ability to develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to support, influence and motivate others.

You will be a registered social worker, nurse, midwife, or other registered health professional with a current practising certificate, a full clean driver's licence and the ability to be flexible to allow district travel as required.
