Preceptor (full time), Surgical, Anaesthesia & Perioperative, CM Health at Counties Manukau District Health Board (South Auckland), Auckland

Fixed term contract until July 2023

Counties Manukau Health has two Central Sterile Supply Departments (CSSD) over two sites. The Middlemore site services the hospital on a 24/7 roster. The Manukau Surgery Centre site services the hospital Monday to Friday 0700 to 2300hrs. 

We are currently seeking a Preceptor to oversee the training of our team of Technicians who clean, inspect, pack and sterilise complicated surgical instrument sets and implants ready for our surgical teams and various other customers.

You will be responsible for the one on one training of staff within CSSD, including the assessment of the teaching material in use and the skills and competencies of individual staff members.  When you are not involved in the one-on-one training of CSSD Staff, you would be required to fulfil the rostered duties of a CSSD Technician. 

We are looking for someone who enjoys teaching and has a passion for education. You also must have completed the Level 3 or 4 Sterilising Technology Course Certificate and have at least 2-3 years’ experience in a CSSD.  

A sound knowledge of computer systems, ability to adapt to new software, a "can-do" attitude and flexibility are also key attributes we seek.

Essential

  • Minimum of 3 years secondary education
  • Recent senior CSSD experience
  • High level of written and verbal communication
  • Level 3 or 4 Sterilising Technology Certificate
  • Completed or working towards completing the Level 5 Diploma in Sterilising Technology or committed to achieving in the near future

Desired

  • Experience using an instrument tracking computer system
  • NZSSA Membership and Registration
