An exciting opportunity has arisen for registered nurses to be a part of the Waikato District Health Board, Marangai Areare team. This is a fixed term contract for a duration of 6 months and the successful applicant will have a passion for Maori Health initiatives and working with whanau in a complex, adaptive system.
About the role
This programme of work will embrace Mātauranga Māori and Te Ao Māori in order to be effective for our Māori communities and fulfil our Te Tiriti obligations. Waikato DHB serves the largest Māori population and third largest Pacific people’s population in the country.
The purpose of this challenging and rewarding role is to:
• Support Maaori whanau in the home isolation environment
• Utilising whakapapa links to identify best ways to support whaanau in their locality
Required skills & experience:
• Bachelor of Nursing qualification or equivalent
• Registration with Nursing Council of New Zealand; inclusive of scope of practice
• Understanding of Tikanga Māori and the ability to engage appropriately in Māori settings
• An understanding of system wide health inequities
• Experience in working collaboratively in a high pressure environment
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to negotiate, resolve conflict and positively influence and motivate others

The Waikato District Health Board Health & Safety has a policy that includes ensuring that you comply with the Health Order announced 11 October 2021 and with the Waikato DHB’s Vaccine Preventable Diseases for Employees policy. The Waikato District Health Board (DHB) is one of the largest of 20 DHBs in New Zealand. We plan, fund and provide health and disability support services to a population of more than 400,000. We run five hospitals across the district – a tertiary hospital in Hamilton, a secondary hospital in Thames, and three rural hospitals in Te Kuiti, Taumarunui, and Tokoroa.
Waikato Hospital in Hamilton is one of New Zealand’s largest tertiary, teaching hospitals with over 600 inpatient beds and 22 operating theatres. Clinical specialities include Women’s and Children Services, Cardiology / Cardiothoracic Surgery, Oncology and Haematology, Surgical services, and Mental Health and Addiction. Waikato Hospital is the Midland regional referral centre for multiple specialties including trauma surgery, oncology, and neurology.
