Mō te tūnga | About the role
Our desired future is one where we demonstrate that our people matter, we want out staff to feel listened to, valued and empowered. As part of the Employee Relations (ER) service, the Senior ER Advisor will provide a proactive, effective, and professional Employee Relations advisory service to the ministry.
The Employee Relations service have three focus areas to help our people live the Oranga Tamariki vision, purpose and the Oranga Tamariki way. These are:
- Making our people processes effective and easy so they can focus on Oranga Tamariki
- To build our capability so that we can realise Oranga Tamariki
- And to create an environment where are people are empowered to put Tamariki first
Working with the Employee Relations/Industrial Relations (IR) Specialists, this role will manage a range of complex ER cases. In addition the Senior ER Advisor will provide support, advice and coaching to the HR Advisor team in relation to ER caseloads.
Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring
Desired skills and experience include but are not limited to the following:
- Significant experience in mediation and working within the industrial relations environment
- Outstanding communications and negotiation skills, and the ability to model the concept of "good faith" in employment relationships
- Proven experience in coaching, mentoring leading and influencing in a comparably complex and sizable environment
- Detailed knowledge of current NZ employment law and HR practices
- Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural issues and concerns knowledge of tikanga Māori and Pacific
