Mō te tūnga | About the role

The Canterbury Regional Forensic Psychiatric Service is dedicated to assessing and treated people that have acted violently in the context of a mental disorder, or may be at risk of doing so.  It also caters for prisoners that require inpatient treatment.  There are a number of units and teams which includes medium secure units, an open unit and a community team that assess and treat people with mental illness that are known to the Justice System.

As a Forensic Psychologist within our service you will have a number of key roles:  We are offering you the fantastic opportunity to become a key member of a multidisciplinary team where your clinical skills will be used to drive comprehensive risk assessments, diagnostic formulation and critically provide individual and group treatment to a complex, yet interesting group of adult patients. In addition to this, the other key roles are the provision of both expert testimony and comprehensive reports for the courts, addressing matters related to fitness to stand trial, the issue of insanity, and sentencing recommendations.

Your professionalism, commitment to quality patient care, excellent communication and time management will see you work effectively as part of the wider team, which includes four other clinical psychologists that work for the service.

You will need to be a NZ registered Clinical Psychologist. Ideally, you will have recent experience in a Forensic Mental Health setting and clear skills in risk assessment and formulation. We will consider applications from clinical psychologists from other areas who can demonstrate relevant transferable skills and application aptitude.
