Fantastic opportunity for a Senior Advisor to join Maritime New Zealand's Maritime Systems Assurance group, based in Wellington.
About us:
Maritime New Zealand is the regulatory compliance and response agency for the safety, security and environmental protection of New Zealand's navigable waters. It helps to develop and maintain the national safety, security and environmental protection regulations that govern the operation of vessels, ports and offshore installations in New Zealand waters.
About the business group:
Maritime Systems Assurance (MSA) provides high quality technical advice and assurance to internal and external stakeholders regarding international, domestic, maritime, environmental, port and harbour sector issues.
About you:
The successful applicant will have extensive knowledge of the maritime industry and marine operations, including but not limited to: navigation safety; port and terminal operations; shipboard operations and systems; cargo operations; the business of shipping; crewing and seafarer training matters; ship survey and inspection requirements; New Zealand's maritime and health and safety legislation; international maritime conventions and maritime law; hydrography; and industry best practice.
You will have demonstrable experience in performing quality research, analyses and reporting on a variety of themes with well-developed technical writing and communications skills. You will be comfortable and capable of delivering quality outputs whether working independently or collaboratively as a member of a team.
The key to your success in this role will be your sound decision-making skills and leadership qualities. We need someone who has the confidence and ability to engage with people from fishermen to Government Ministers; someone who can also hold themselves well when under the spotlight (during an incident response for example); and someone who earns respect, and seeks to build other's understanding.
The successful candidate will need to have a current and clean Driver License and be available to travel within NZ at short notice.
