Senior Adviser at Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade, Wellington

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade

Senior Adviser

  • Engage and shape relationships with a broad range of stakeholders across MFAT and other government agencies
  • Navigate complex issues in a dynamic environment
  • Lead and advise on initiatives that promote inter-agency coordination and alignment

Be part of a specialist team building stronger connections and collaboration across New Zealand’s global diplomatic network.

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

The NZ Inc global network is comprised of 14 government agencies operating from 72 offshore posts across 54 countries. The NZ Inc Unit within MFAT’s Portfolio and Delivery Services Division (PDS) performs a key role in supporting NZ Inc agencies to operate internationally.

Strong relationships and engaging effectively across our broad stakeholder network are central to our success, and the Senior Advisor is responsible for tools and strategies that guide this, and enable a high-functioning NZ Inc engagement machinery.   You will apply a NZ Inc-wide lens in the management of complex issues that arise from our diverse stakeholder needs, and in leading or contributing to operational and strategic initiatives to advance cohesion and alignment across the offshore network.  Achieving results means working closely with other members of the NZ Inc Operations Unit, NZ Inc agency partners and relevant Ministry business units.

The appointment range for this role is $95,555 to $112,418 total remuneration – negotiable depending on experience.

Please note:

This is not a Foreign Policy/diplomatic role.  This is a ‘Corporate’ role (known here as a Specialist role) based in central Wellington, NZ.

While it is not usual for specialist staff to be ‘posted’ outside of NZ, from time to time a specialist role overseas becomes available at one of our embassies, high commissions, missions or consulates. To be considered for one of these positions you will need to apply and be considered via a competitive recruitment process.

If you have an interest in an MFAT foreign policy career you will be welcome to apply for this either via our graduate recruitment or mid-level foreign policy recruitment campaigns.

Mā‎ wai te mahi nei? – Who are we looking for?
