Residential Night Attendant - Te Pae Tawhiti at Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children, Otago

Te Pae Tawhiti Group Home in Dunedin 

 

(Night Shift: 10:15pm - 7:15am)


Te Pae Tawhiti Group Home located in Dunedin requires a Residential Night Attendant.  The home is operational 24 hours a day 7 days a week and is staffed continuously.  We are looking for a Residential Night Attendant to work 10.15pm - 7.15am on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays. This is permanent vacancy.


About the role | Mō te tūnga

The purpose is to support tamariki in making good life choices, strengthening whānau relationships, and ensuring routines and processes for strengthening positive behaviour are in place and maintained.  The tamariki who come to Te Pae Tawhiti require a safe nurturing environment where we can work together to help them make positive change at what is often a critical point in their lives. Their needs can be complex, and so are the journeys that brought them here.

This is a unique opportunity to positively influence the lives of tamariki in your community.  This role may also be required to be part of the Senior Duty Roster covering after hours.  An allowance is payable in recognition of this additional responsibility.

 

At this time Oranga Tamariki invites applications from fully vaccinated people or people with a valid medical exemption (under the COVID-19 Public Health Response (Vaccinations) Order 2021). We will require evidence of your vaccination status or a valid exemption. We will require evidence of your vaccination status at the pre-employment stage of our recruitment process. 

 

What you will bring | Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

  • meet the safety checking and Ministry vetting requirements (police check etc.)
  • have a full clean New Zealand drivers' licence
  • have a belief and commitment to ensuring that the paramount element of importance in your work is the safety of and outcomes for children and young persons
  • be a strong team player and positive role model
  • demonstrate initiative and sound judgement, with an ability to 'think on your feet'
  • have experience developing rapport with young people
  • be self-directed in work practices
  • effective time management
  • strong communication skills (you will need to write succinct, factual and audience appropriate reports)
  • experience in residential care work as an employee or volunteer or have relevant life skills
  • an understanding of interventions and treatment approaches to effect positive behavioural change
  • an ability to deliver structured programmes
  • an interest in sports and fitness, tikanga Maori or music/arts
