Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
Waka Kotahi is busy working on effecting the transfer of the safety camera system from NZ Police to Waka Kotahi. Safety cameras are an important lever to reduce excessive speeds and ultimately reduce Deaths and Serious Injuries (DSIs) on New Zealand roads. This is an exciting and complex programme of work that contributes to achieving our Road to Zero objectives. This role provides a real opportunity to shape a new approach to safety cameras.
The Safety Camera System (SCS) Programme is responsible for leading the design and build for the safety camera transfer from NZ Police at the right time. We are now ready to onboard five key permanent roles to progress embedding this work across the agency, ensuring successful ongoing operation of the safety camera system at Waka Kotahi. The Principal Advisor role will work within the Safety, Health & Environment (SH&E) Road Safety team to provide robust strategic advice and analysis on the safety camera system and road safety requirements. This advice will form the basis for safety camera network design and implementation, including determining the location of cameras and identifying health and safety risks across the network.
Reporting to the Team Lead, Safe Road Use, Vehicles, Speeds, Roads & Roadsides, you will also have a dotted reporting line to the Senior Manager, Safety Camera System in the Regulatory Services group, a newly established focal point role responsible for the overall safety camera ownership within Waka Kotahi. The Principal Advisor also has strong links into the Programme team during the design and transfer of the safety camera function.
This is a key role responsible for contributing to shaping a new integrated, risk-based approach to the safety camera system within Waka Kotahi. If a challenge is what you are looking for, this opportunity is for you.
