This is an exciting opportunity to be an integral part of a dynamic team that delivers a complete Activity Based Costing solution for the New Zealand Customs Service to use as an important decision-making tool. You will gain a complete understanding of how Customs operates and the important work that we do. You will work closely with the business to ensure appropriate data is compiled about the activities we perform and how much these cost. The ABC models provide a sound and transparent basis for cost recovery fees.
About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga mahi
Customs has completed the implementation of an Activity Based Costing (ABC) model to cost the various activities and services undertaken at Customs based on ABC best principles and is now seeking a team to run the on-going operation. This position will manage the team.
The Team Leader will maintain and strengthen Customs' ABC capability, providing a vision for its utility, develop the software and design of the model, and develop the team. The role will develop a strategy for delivery of a robust system aligned with best practice.
To be successful in this role the following knowledge, experience, skills and personal attributes are required:
- A tertiary qualification (at least equivalent to Bachelors) in finance or a relevant discipline;
- Demonstrated experience in the analysis of costing information and applying that to business questions, and
- ideally some experience in Activity Based Costing methodology and in applying it in a complex service organisation.

(*) you must have resided in Aotearoa 5 years ago from the date of this application and have continuously resided in New Zealand for the last 5 years - or have spent short amounts of time in one or more of the following countries: Australia, Canada, United Kingdom or United States. You must have a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service towards a recommendation of suitability for security clearance at a higher level.
