Senior Advisor, Strategic Planning and Performance at Climate Change Commission, Wellington

About us 

He Pou a Rangi Climate Change Commission (the Commission) is an Independent Crown Entity established under the Climate Change Response Act 2002.  

Our purpose is to provide independent, expert advice to the New Zealand Government on both mitigating and adapting to the effects of climate change, and to monitor and review the Government's progress towards its emissions reduction and adaptation goals. The Commission plays a key role in New Zealand's framework for developing and implementing clear and stable climate change policies. 

About the position

The Senior Advisor plays a critical role in delivering the Commission's key accountability documents and helps to shape and implement its strategy, performance and planning products and processes. Sitting within the Strategy, Engagement & Corporate Services business group, and reporting to the Strategy & Performance Manager, the Senior Advisor's work cuts across the whole organisation. This provides a unique opportunity to understand and influence how the Commission operates, both internally and externally with key stakeholders.

About you 

  • A keen professional interest in and understanding of organisational performance, planning and strategy and a passion for driving innovation and improvement
  • A strong track record in performance and reporting roles, ideally with Crown Entities or in the public sector
  • Sound understanding of the machinery of government, public sector processes and systems, including the accountability cycle
  • Can-do attitude with a high level of comfort working in an evolving environment associated with a growing organisation
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills and strong analytical ability
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships and networks with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Highly effective planning and organisational skills, including time management and prioritising work
