Join us at Matariki Community Mental Health Centre for a part time role as a Peer Support Specialist. At Counties Manukau Health our shared vision is to work in partnership with our communities to improve the health status of all, with particular emphasis on Maaori and Pacific peoples and other communities with health disparities. 

 

Our community team provides comprehensive mental health assessment, treatment and recovery support for Tangata Whaiora/Service Users in the Mangere and Otara community. 

 

In this role you will work within our culturally diverse community, providing peer support, and recovery coaching to people who are working towards their mental health recovery. You will be supporting people in the location of their choice: their home, in a clinical setting or a location in the community. You will also be involved in the facilitation of recovery group programmes.

 

Workdays are Monday to Friday within the hours 8am - 5pm.

 

To be successful in this position you will have the following specific training, skills and attributes:

  • Peer Support Training Certificate is essential
  • Completed a programme in Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP) or similar
  • An ability to apply the Peer Support approach
  • An understanding of recovery concepts, pathways and values
  • Excellent verbal, written and computer literacy skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi and its application to health
  • A full clean driver’s licence is essential
