Senior Applications Developer at New Zealand Customs Service, Wellington

We are looking for an experienced Senior Applications Developer to join the Information Services team. This opportunity reports to the Product Manager (Information & Data) is a permanent full-time role based in our Wellington Customhouse.
At Customs we're always looking at how we can use information to make our services the best they can be. As such Customs has a dedicated team to import data from a variety of sources into an Enterprise data warehouse. The warehouse is used to provide reports from the usual Management reports to Business Intelligence to dash boarding and assisting our data analytics team.
The purpose of this role is to provide a higher level of technical leadership, both within a particular product team and in a collaborative fashion across all towers and product teams.
We're doing a whole lot more to help protect and promote New Zealand, and need an Applications Developer with a good knowledge of warehousing and ETL technologies.
To be successful as a Senior Applications Developer the appointee requires the following knowledge, experience, skills and personal attributes:
- The proven ability to work well in and across multiple teams in a highly collaborative manner;
- The ability to support, mentor, influence and lead people;
- The ability to work flexibly, delivering change and support across multiple products and services;
- Able to adapt to and learn new technologies and methodologies as required;
- Five plus years of relevant experience of development in a data warehouse environment;
- Good knowledge of relevant software development topics, primarily ETL development, databases, and methodologies but also other related areas (integration technologies, scripting, etc.);
- Good knowledge of the Cognos toolsets is desirable;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to deliver quality outcomes, even when under pressure.

OR a New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident who has resided in New Zealand for the last 5 years and resides in NZ at time of application, but may have been absent from New Zealand for periods of six or more months within the past five years, preferably in one or more of the following countries: either Australia, Canada, UK or the USA. You will be required to provide overseas police certificates for these periods spent outside of New Zealand.
