Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga (HNZPT) is New Zealand's primary agency for cultural heritage protection and advocacy. We are looking for someone with the passion, skill and enthusiasm to learn to be an effective conservation advocate for the historic places of HNZPT's Southern Region. You will assist in providing expert building conservation and cultural heritage preservation advice to our property staff, councils, iwi, owners, and stakeholders in Canterbury and West Coast, in regard to heritage management, and the adaptation of listed and scheduled historic places. Travel within the area will be involved.
The role calls for, understanding of building and construction, interest in building conservation practices and principles, ability to write fit-for-purpose heritage assessments and a strong desire to learn and develop your skills. You will also be representing HNZPT in public forums. Candidates also need a willingness to be mentored, to foster relationships and negotiate outcomes with stakeholders.
A qualification and experience in a relevant field of building and/or architectural history is required.
You must have a vaccine passport to be eligible for this position.
