Are you passionate about Emergency Medicine and keen to pursue a designated role within our Clinical Pharmacy service? We have the opportunity that you have been waiting for!
Middlemore Hospital is a large and progressive tertiary hospital located in South Auckland and is unique in terms of the diverse, high-needs population we serve. Our service is committed to providing excellent patient-centred care and achieving equitable health outcomes through collaboration, continuous improvement and innovation. We are proud to be one of the leading Clinical Pharmacy services in Australasia with established systems and technology to optimise safe and effective use of medicines for our patients, from admission to discharge. Our clinical pharmacists have a strong presence and are well-regarded across the organisation. Our work is highly valued not just in the direct patient care setting but also in clinical leadership within the multidisciplinary team as well as systems improvement and governance. We are invested in building workforce capabilities and supporting our pharmacists to achieve their goals as a clinician and to make a lasting impact within and beyond the organisation. The diverse and complex clinical scenarios that we encounter and help manage every day make Counties an exceptional environment for lifelong learning.
The Emergency Department at Middlemore Hospital is the busiest in Australasia and incredibly dynamic and fast-paced. The clinical pharmacy services we provide to ED have evolved over recent years to address the unmet need for pharmacist input for patients being treated in ED, some of whom are discharged from ED without being admitted to inpatient wards. From basic medicines history taking, reconciliation and chart reviews, we have successfully engaged with other ED clinicians to build a service that is collaborative with a shifted focus to the more acute side of Emergency Medicine. For example, we are now trialling a model of care where trained ED pharmacists work alongside doctors and nurses in resuscitations. There is huge potential and many opportunities to improve safety and effective use of medicines in ED as well as for quality, service development and research. We are looking for a clinical pharmacist with the relevant expertise and drive to help us progress our service in ED. Alternatively, this is a rare opportunity for an experienced pharmacist who thrives in fast-paced, pressured clinical environments to develop from a pre-specialist to specialist through our support system and established career progression framework. In addition, this role can cater for the pharmacist prescriber scope.
