Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
The Department of Urology at the Auckland District Health Board invites applications for a 12-month Fellowship position under the supervision of Dr Andrew Lienert, Service Clinical Director of Urology.

The Urology Department at Auckland City Hospital provides a secondary service for the population of Auckland City and Counties Manukau as well as tertiary service for the greater Auckland region. Auckland City Hospital is also the regional service for all acute admissions. The Department has major interests in oncology, endourology, and reconstructive urology. The service carries out a very high volume of acute and elective stone work (including PCNLs) - the largest in Australasia. Our service also provides complex reconstructive and functional urology for our patients; we have two Urologists who specialise in this work.
 

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills
It is essential that applicants have surgical training equivalent to FRACS level with Post-Fellowship training in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery in a recognised scheme. Desirable attributes also include post-fellowship experience in Endocrine Surgery or Surgical Oncology. The appointee will also be competent in the acute treatment of general surgical conditions. A commitment to research, audit and quality assurance is also required.

Our surgical procedures include:

  • All general endo-urology including TURP, HOLEP, high volume PCNL (supine and prone, using ShockPulse™ with training in surgeon-led percutaneous access)
  • Open and laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (3D HD laparoscopy)
  • Laparoscopic radical and partial nephrectomy, laparoscopic pyeloplasty
  • Radical cystectomy, RPLND, complex open renal surgery for advanced cancer
  • Collaboration with the Renal Transplant Surgery
  • Pelvic exenteration
  • Reconstructive urology including complex single and multi-stage urethral reconstruction, male sling and artificial sphincter implantation
  • Neuro-urology and spinal patient reconstructive urology
  • High volume acute operative urology as the acute centre for the greater Auckland area
