Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
As a Senior Transport Planner, you will be supporting and leading transport planning initiatives across New Zealand in partnership with local councils and other key stakeholders. You will bring your transport planning expertise to support and lead initiatives at early conceptualisation and optioneering phases through to detailed design.
You will develop transport initiatives through our business case process, applying your transport planning and engineering expertise to develop customer focussed, safe, sustainable, resilient, and accessible transport solutions that respond to short-, medium- and long-term challenges such as rapid growth in our major cities and climate change.

We are looking for a confident self-starter, who thrive working collaboratively with diverse and varied stakeholders to achieve positive transport outcomes coupled with an innate curiosity, solution focus and learning mindset.
Depending on your experience, you'll bring:
- A track record of transport planning in a business case context, including problem definition, option development, appraisal and evaluation, stakeholder engagement and project approvals
- Ideally detailed design experience and sound project management skills, including a high delivery focus and excellent attention to detail
- Experience managing professional services contracts to quality, time and budget constraints, reviewing outputs in association with subject matter experts
- Ability to connect people and navigate legislative process and political drivers to deliver great outcomes for our customers
- Sufficient knowledge, depending on level, to work independently or with support to provide planning and design advice across the organisation and externally
- A working knowledge of business case principles to ensure proposals are evidence based, aligned, and represent a compelling case for investment
You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
We have an extensive pipeline of exciting projects across multiple outcome areas, as well as some challenging outcomes to achieve, including delivering on New Zealand's road safety strategy Road to Zero, enhancing system resilience and supporting Aotearoa towards achieving its net zero commitments.
