The details: Part-time – 68 hours per fortnight (0.85 FTE), Permanent
Waikato hospital Speech Language Therapy department has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Speech Language Therapist to join our team. The role will be predominately based in the Child Development Centre at Waikato Hospital. Therefore, experience working with children with a wide range of communication difficulties and within a multidisciplinary context is required. Experience working with children with complex feeding difficulties is desired.
You will work regularly with a highly skilled MDT team at the Waikato Child Development Centre to deliver a specialist diagnostic assessment and intervention service to children with disabilities from birth to 15 years of age.
Your caseload will involve working with children with a variety of disabilities including prematurity, respiratory and/or cardiac diagnoses, chromosomal syndromes such as Trisomy 21, and neurological conditions such as cerebral palsy in the community. You will work within a close SLT team and there will be opportunities to support and/or develop your skills in paediatric feeding.
You will need a sound knowledge of the use of informal and formal assessment tools, excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to work well within a team to achieve client focused goals and a focus on evidence based practice
To apply you will need to:
- Have a minimum of 2 years post graduate experience as an SLT working with children with communication difficulties
- Be eligible for NZSTA membership
- Have a Bachelors or Masters degree in Speech Language Therapy from an NZSTA-accredited programme; or have had your qualifications approved by the NZSTA.
- Have excellent knowledge of childhood development
- Have experience working within a multi-disciplinary team working towards patient focused goals.
- Have a current valid full New Zealand drivers licence
Ideally you will also have:
- Experience working with children with a range of communication delays/difficulties
- Experience working with children with swallowing/feeding difficulties
- Have experience performing and interpreting videofluoroscopy swallowing studies.
