Social Worker / Kaimahi Toko i te Ora (Child Health & Infectious Diseases) at Capital & Coast District Health Board (Wellington), Wellington Hospital

Location: Wellington Hospital ' Community Child Health and Infectious Diseases

Service: ORA Social Work Service

Contract: Permanent, Part-time (0.8FTE / 32 hours per week.  Work hours flexible and negotiable)

Salary:  As Per MECA

Kōrero mō te tūranga ' About the role

This is a part time, permanent position working in the community across two health services; Child Health and Infectious Diseases.

  • The Child Health role works with patients aged 0 ' 15 years and their whānau in the community from Johnsonville/Newlands to Miramar/Seatoun.  You will work with a diverse group of paediatric patients with significant health needs.  You will complete psycho social assessments and work alongside whānau, the Child Health Multi-Disciplinary Team members and external agencies to improve children's health outcomes.   When child protection concerns are identified you will work with whānau to complete a risk assessment and safety plan to address these.
  • The Infectious Diseases role works primarily with people diagnosed with HIV aged 16 years and over.  In this role, therapeutic social work is provided to people and their whānau to help them manage the psychological and social impact of their diagnosis.  The Social Worker will assist with navigating and accessing supports to meet emotional, social and financial needs.  The role works closely with the HIV Clinical Nurse Specialist and the Infectious Diseases team.
  • The role provides cover into other areas of the hospital as needed and social work on Saturday's across inpatient services on a roster basis, approximately 3 -4 times per year receiving penal pay rates.

We are a team of 23 social workers who provide a service to patients and their whānau across inpatient, outpatient and community settings.  We complete psycho social assessments across the age range and provide holistic social work interventions.  Come and join our friendly experienced team in a supportive workplace environment. 

Moū ' About you

You will be a New Zealand Registered Social Worker with a current practicing certificate and 3 years Social Work experience with at least 2 years' experience within a health setting.  You will have an understanding of grief, loss and change as it relates to long term health conditions.  You will have excellent communication, documentation and time management skills.
