Clinical Rotational Pharmacist, Fixed Term 12 months, Waitemata District, Auckland at Waitemata District Health Board (North & West Auckland), Auckland
Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role
- Clinical Rotational Pharmacist
- North Shore and Waitakere Hospitals
- Full time fixed-term position – 12 months
Join our friendly and motivated team providing a patient-focussed and technologically-innovative pharmacy service. We have a position available for a junior rotational pharmacist.
Our Pharmacy Department provides clinical pharmacy services across the range of divisions (medical, surgical and orthopaedic, older adult, paediatric, mental health), with more specialist roles that include renal, cardiac, ICU, forensic mental health and haematology. Our pharmacists participate in ward rounds, optimise medication use for patients, screen for medication issues on admission, provide discharge counselling, and promote the safe and quality use of medicines across the DHB. Dispensary skills are maintained by participation in the dispensary roster, with most of our clinical staff working to support operations 1-2 hours twice a week.
Participation in a post-graduate Certificate or Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy programme is encouraged and supported, and we also provide in-house continuing professional development and training sessions.
Waitematā District has a track record of developing electronic systems to improve efficiency, safety and flexibility. This includes a well-established automated medicine distribution system (Pyxis), electronic patient notes, e- whiteboard, electronic Medicines Reconciliation, and ePrescribing projects that provide an environment able to support the continued development of clinical roles.
You will demonstrate the values of Te Whatu Ora Waitematā, enjoy working in a multidisciplinary team environment, and seek to extend your clinical skills within a supportive team. You will preferably have some experience working in hospital pharmacy, have a current APC, and have excellent communication, problem solving and time management skills.
Although past hospital experience is preferred, we also offer a transition pathway for pharmacists of other backgrounds. This pathway builds the clinical capability of our successful candidate by first laying a solid foundation within the operational setting, then extending to work alongside mentors to apply new learning on the wards.
