Aviation Security Officer – Invercargill
Part-time roles at Invercargill Airport
We’re a Crown Entity responsible for the safety and security of New Zealand’s civil aviation system. There are two parts to our business – the regulatory arm (Civil Aviation Authority) which is responsible for the safety oversight of the civil aviation system, and the security arm (Aviation Security Service) who you would have seen if you’ve travelled by plane in New Zealand.
Working in a small team you will be responsible for a range of tasks on a daily basis, including:
- Pre-departure searches of passengers, checked-in and carry-on luggage
- Airport access controls
- Screening of airport workers, cargo and retail supplies
Work will be in shifts and will require work on weekends, religious and public holidays. You can expect to work a minimum of 4 hours per day – currently 5 days per week. The starting rate for this role will be $29.00 per hour commencing on shifts of 20 hours per week.

NZQA Level 4 training for the role is undertaken and ongoing development opportunities provided. Successful candidates will be required to undertake a paid 4-week training course working 8.5 hours a day upon starting their role.
Successful applicants will need to obtain and maintain NZ security clearance, be a NZ citizen or NZ permanent resident, hold a full clean drivers licence and meet our medical standards. You must be willing to have regular Covid-19 tests and a vaccination for their own health; and the health, safety and wellbeing of colleagues, friends, family and the wider community.
Due to the requirements of the role those with colour vision deficiencies, recent serious injuries or criminal convictions will not be considered. Those who have applied for a role with us in the past 12 months and have been unsuccessful need not apply.
