  • Support the organisation to succeed through developing an aligned People Branch with a reputation of being business driven, customer focused, and results oriented
  • Rise to the challenge of being part of an Executive leadership Team focused on turning strategy to action, and results for the communities we serve

Who are we:

Fire and Emergency New Zealand is a Crown Entity established on 1 July 2017 under the Fire and Emergency New Zealand Act 2017. About the role:

Reporting to the Chief Executive, this role presents an exciting leadership opportunity to lead the People Branch. You'll be responsible for building a proactive, high-performing, and unified Branch to deliver a suite of contemporary HR/OD services to the business. This is a complex role that requires an experienced, and resilient leader to steer the organisation's people agenda, build strong relationships with employees and their representatives, and ensure that workforce culture, capability, and performance strategies and initiatives are delivered in a sustainable way. You'll champion Fire and Emergency's volunteerism strategy, lead the organisation's mindset shift to a ‘safety first' culture, and reorient traditionally siloed groups to create a sense of ‘team' and collective value. You'll also play a pivotal role in developing a unified organisation with the necessary capabilities and culture to support the communities that Fire and Emergency serves.

What you'll bring to the role:

  • proven expertise in leading cultural transformation in a complex, service-based organisation – working in a ‘tension and influence' capacity to build trust and break down siloes among the People branch and across the organisation.
  • experience working in a unionised environment, with a commitment to working in ways that value our people, and delivers on organisation's strategies
  • a leadership disposition that engages people, brings them together and delivers on commitments
  • the ability and commitment to champion safety, health and wellbeing
  • seasoned experience across the different HR/OD disciplines
  • courage and a willingness to ‘lean in' to the organisation and demonstrate a compelling commitment to influencing change and build trust and deliver results through your leadership.
  • a collaborative style with the ability to understand and work with diverse groups and individuals in a way that builds trust and respect
  • a strong understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi and a strong respect for fostering strong partnerships with Māori and iwi
  • sound understanding of the statutory framework, and the political, social, environmental and commercial settings within which the organisation operates.

Applications close Friday 19 August 2022.
