Consultant Psychiatrist – Part-Time 0.6 FTE
Older Adults Mental Health Services
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our established and dynamic Older Adults Mental Health Service.
It is an exciting time in Mental Health, and we are keen to hear from a suitably qualified Consultant Psychiatrist interested in Old Age Psychiatry. We are seeking an enthusiastic, proactive person with a drive to improve care delivery.
Mental Health Services for Older Adults (MHSOA) provides inpatient and community services for people experiencing mental health issues. The service is provided on the North Shore, Rodney District and West Auckland. Entry to the service is in line with regional entry criteria.
MHSOA provides assessment, treatment and support to:
- People with severe mental disorders aged 65 or older
- People of any age with primary dementia and serious behavioural and/or psychological symptoms.
- People with pre-existing severe mental health disorders who would be better cared for by MHSOA, either because of significant medical co-morbidities or frailty
This team reports to the Specialty Medicine & Health of Older People division. The MHSOA team maintains solid professional links to the Mental Health and Addiction division.
Kingsley Mortimer Unit (Ward 12) – a 19-bed inpatient unit on the North Shore Hospital site that provides inpatient assessment and treatment for the Waitematā district.
Two community teams – one in the North Shore area covering Rodney District and urban North Shore and one in West Auckland – work collaboratively with the inpatient teams.
A Sub-Acute and Rehabilitation Team (STaR) works collaboratively across the district, providing intensive support.
The service operates a clinical governance model that allows close involvement of clinicians in service development, service planning and quality improvement initiatives.
We are an accredited training service and have rotating pre-examination psychiatry trainees and advanced trainees in psychiatry of old age; therefore, teaching and supervision of training registrars, house officers, medical students and clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team are core functions of our consultants.
You will also ideally be involved in our neuro-stimulation service, which currently delivers electroconvulsive therapy to our clients.
