Wairarapa Hospital, based in Masterton, is about an hour and a half from Hutt Hospital and Wellington Hospital. Daily rail services link Wairarapa with the Wellington region, including the International Airport and Inter-Island ferry connections.

 

Wairarapa Hospital requires a General Physician or Geriatrician specialist to join our Department of Medicine, covering the Assessment, Treatment & Rehabilitation ward. This is an opportunity for clinicians interested in working in one of New Zealand's most attractive areas.

Wairarapa District Health Board provides secondary services for a population of approximately 48,000, providing 24-hour acute and elective care in general and orthopaedic surgery, medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, ophthalmology, psychiatry, and paediatrics. The hospital operates both Public & Private theatre sessions covering General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, Endoscopy, Gynaecology, and Obstetrics, as well as Ophthalmic and ENT.

Moū - About you

You will require a strong commitment to comprehensive care encompassed within General Internal Medicine, including full involvement in the acute roster for admission and ongoing care of undifferentiated acute adult hospital presentations. You will be eligible for Vocational Scope Registration with the New Zealand Medical Council. Consideration would be given to appointing a Medical Officer (MOSS) with extensive experience in medicine.

Essential requirements for this role:

  • Registered as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Council of New Zealand or eligible for registration with the Medical Council to enable practice within New Zealand.
  • Holds a higher qualification appropriate to the specialty which is recognised by the Medical Council of New Zealand for specialist registration.
  • Proven experience in the position of Consultant Physician or Consultant Geriatrician
  • An interest in rehabilitation and older adults, and previous experience in a rehabilitation setting.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to cultural differences.
  • Commitment to auditing standards of practice.
  • Proven knowledge of modern skills and techniques within medicine.
  • Has demonstrated a high standard of clinical care, management and time management skills.
  • Is committed to continually updating skills and treatment methods.
