Mō te tūnga | About the role
We - re seeking an experienced Electrician to assist in the repair and maintenance of buildings, building services / plant and equipment and building management systems.
You will generally work an 8-hour day between the hours of 6am and 6pm Monday to Friday, but generally 7.30am to 4pm. After-hours work may be required from time to time as well as there being an on-call component to the role.
This is a permanent, full time role, based predominantly at Hillmorton Hospital, however Princess Margaret on occasions.
You will be responsible for:
- Maintenance and repairs of electrical items or systems associated with Te Whau Ora Waitaha Canterbury buildings and sites
- Installation, repair and maintenance of hospital equipment, reticulation systems, electrical safety checks as well as a variety of other commercial and industrial maintenance.
- Report any plant or equipment which appears to be faulty or requires maintenance to the Maintenance Manager.
To be considered for this role you will be a strong communicator and be able to work unsupervised as well as with a team. Your ability to work under pressure and operate in a logical and safe manner will also be paramount in this role.

This role requires the following:
Essential:
- Be a Licensed Electrician with The Electrical Workers Registration Board of New Zealand (www.ewrb.govt.nz)
- Previous experience working in accordance with building statutory requirements
- Have excellent communication skills
- Advanced Trade Certificate desirable.
- Experience providing services to a 24-hour operating environment preferable.
- Time management skills, especially ability to set and follow appropriate priorities.
- Knowledge and understanding of trades roles and impact upon patient services.
- Knowledge and understanding of the impact of building and fittings upon patient services.
- Ability to identify maintenance requirements through casual observation.
- Ability to follow administrative procedures.
