The National Library of New Zealand has the mandate to make the National Library's collections accessible to provide for the most valuable use of those collections and resources. As a Library Assistant with Collection Services, you will be assigned a range of activities working with the published collections of the National Library. This is a full-time permanent role.
Reporting to the Print Disabilities Service Librarian you will:
- Select items for bulk loans based on customer profiles
- Retrieve and issue collection items for use by external and internal patrons
- Communicate with customers via email and phone to answer queries
- Carry out collection management tasks such as shelving, mending and processing new materials
To be successful in this role you will have:
- NCEA Level 3 (or equivalent)
- An interest in current popular literature
- Knowledge of basic library routines and procedures
- Experience using standard computer packages
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
- Ability to fulfil the physical requirements of the position, which will include the lifting of heavy items
Our preferred candidate will have library experience or be working towards a library qualification.
