Royal Commissions into COVID-19 Lessons at Department of Internal Affairs, Wellington

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

Expressions of Interest
Royal Commission of Inquiry into COVID-19 lessons
Fixed term and secondment roles

What are the lessons from our COVID-19 experience that will strengthen our preparedness for a future pandemic?

Support a Royal Commission of Inquiry and seize an excellent career opportunity

The COVID-19 pandemic has represented an unparalleled challenge to New Zealand and the international community. The experts are clear: there will be future pandemics, and they will not replicate our experience of COVID-19. New Zealand's preparation for future pandemics needs to be flexible enough to respond effectively to a broad range of potential events.

The Government has established a Royal Commission of Inquiry to prepare New Zealand for future pandemics through lessons learned from COVID-19.

We need exceptional people to join the Secretariat that will support the Royal Commission

Royal Commissions are established for the most significant matters of public importance. Given the global impact of COVID-19, this Royal Commission carries a degree of extra gravitas. Simply put, this is a unique and time-limited opportunity to get knowledge and experience working in the Secretariat that you are unlikely to get anywhere else during your career.

This is a rare opportunity to contribute to meaningful work that will make a real difference to public health and the wellbeing of New Zealanders.

The Royal Commission is an independent statutory Inquiry. Its Secretariat will be primarily based in Wellington and will sit within the Department of Internal Affairs.

We would love to hear from talented people interested in working in the following areas:

  • Policy and Research (from Directors to Analysts)
  • Iwi/Māori Policy and Engagement
  • Programme Management
  • Business Support roles, including
    • Support Management
    • Information Management
    • Finance
    • Team Administration
    • Personal Assistant
  • Communications and Engagement
  • Event Coordination

These roles are available on both a secondment and fixed-term appointment basis. Some roles will be needed for the life of the inquiry, and some would be needed for between six and twelve months.
