The Cancer Support Psychology & Social Work team at Middlemore Hospital is seeking a Social Worker to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients and their whanau. This is a key role within our cancer services.
Are you a social worker that brings enthusiasm, innovation and a desire to work in a small team to support cancer patients to achieve optimal cancer outcomes? The Cancer Support team are involved in supporting the psychosocial needs of patients from early investigations for cancer through to the end of treatment. This position includes working alongside one other social worker and a few health psychologists and is based at Middlemore Hospital. It also involves ongoing liaison with other healthcare staff involved in delivering cancer care as well as various community organisations. We are interested in candidates that bring compassion, are known to work well in a team environment, demonstrate professionalism and a clear commitment to improving patient outcomes and addressing health inequities for cancer patients.
This position is responsible for providing a comprehensive Social Work service to individuals, and their families through the provision of psychosocial assessments and supportive interventions, across community settings. There is opportunity to contribute to staff education, service development and research initiatives.
The preferred candidate would be a dynamic health professional who has experience in health social work within a community or in patient setting. While experience is preferred we are willing to consider more recent graduates.

Essential
- Registered Social Worker with SWRB and a current APC - new graduates and senior social workers are more than welcome to apply.
- Previous experience in health social work
- A high standard of report writing
- Full, clean driver’s licence
