If you are interested in working in Health, here’s a fantastic opportunity. We have an exciting opportunity for a CSSD Technician interested in working in this field.
The CSSD department has a crucial role to play at Counties Manukau District to ensure our Operating Theatres, wards and clinics are provided with the right reusable surgical instruments at the right place and the right time. Working across two main sites - Middlemore Hospital and Manukau Surgery Centre, this team provides a 24/7 service which is absolutely business critical to ensure timely through-put of the required equipment and resources to assist our medical professionals.
The four main areas of the CSSD area are decontamination, sterilisation, packing and distribution of reusable surgical instruments. When you join our team, you will get a thorough orientation in each of these areas. On completion of the orientation, you will work with a technical coach or preceptor who will guide you through your continued learning experience. On completion of your initial training you will be responsible for the processing of reusable surgical instruments for all specialties in the Operating Theatres, Wards, clinics and outlying hospitals.
You do not need to have experience working in CSSD, but need to be quality focused, fit and healthy as it involves manual labour, standing for long periods and heavy lifting. The ability to work independently as well as within a team is also an important component of the role. For people with a background of working in a laboratory environment or a processing/packaging environment, this could be a good career move. We provide a supportive training environment for those new to this area. All staff employed in CSSD who do not already have the Level 4 Sterilising Technology Course Certificate, there is a mandatory requirement for you to have completed this course within 2-3 years of commencing employment with us.
Essential:
• Level 3 or 4 Sterilising Technology Course certificate
• Knowledge of AS/NZS 4187: 2014 Sterilisation standard
• Experience within a health industry or similar
• High level of written and verbal communication skills
