Senior Policy Advisor at Department of Internal Affairs, Wellington

    Safe, reliable, and affordable drinking water, wastewater and stormwater underpins the health and wellbeing of all our communities. Large-scale, once-in-a lifetime reform is being undertaken to ensure that all in Aotearoa have affordable ongoing access to safe drinking water and more environmentally friendly wastewater and stormwater services.

    Join us as we embark on Aotearoa's largest transformational reform programme, Three Waters.

    The scale of the Three Waters reform programme means you'll work as a member of a handpicked team across a range of challenging policy issues critical to reform implementation - spanning areas of corporate governance and management, pricing and economic regulation, infrastructure planning and investment, and system stewardship and monitoring.

    Right now, we're seeking talented Policy Advisor or a Senior Policy Advisor in the Stewardship team with the option to join on a secondment.

    System stewardship is about understanding how all of the component parts of the 3-waters system are working together to deliver on the government's objectives for better water services in support of improved outcomes for New Zealanders, and, advising the Minister on the performance of the system and any necessary changes to its design to improve performance.

    To be successful in this role

    • Strong experience in policy advice and policy processes,
    • Able to work in an agile manner to provide policy support for work across a range of policy issues related to water services reform.
    • Strong experience in the development and delivery of policy and legislation
    • The ability to write clearly and succinctly

    This includes support for the development of policy and resolution of policy issues raised through the drafting and Parliamentary consideration of legislation, and work to establish water services entities.

    A solid familiarity with the machinery of government, some experience in the development of regulatory policy and the ability to write about complex issues clearly and succinctly are highly desired.
