Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity

An opportunity has arisen for 2 people to join the Clinical Coding team based at Waikato Hospital.

The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years clinical coding experience including coding in ICD 10 AM 11^th Edition. The starting salary is within the advertised range (as per the Clinical Coders pay scale and progression framework within the National Health Administration and Clerical Pay Equity Settlement 2022) depending on the level of experience and qualifications held by the successful candidate.

We run five hospitals across the district – a tertiary hospital in Hamilton, a secondary hospital in Thames, and three rural hospitals in Te Kuiti, Taumarunui, and Tokoroa.

The Clinical Coding Department is responsible for coding all the discharges for these hospitals (including the Mental Health Facility on the Waikato campus) and all external outsourced contracts. This is about 10,000-10,500 discharges per month.

To accurately code across all specialties meeting the Te Whatu Ora deadlines and the competency levels within the National Clinical Coder Progression Criteria

Required skills & experience:

• Competency in Coding in ICD 10AM 11^th Edition
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships
• Excellent time management and organisational skills
• Strong customer service focus
• A willingness to undertake further study and ongoing training
