Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
HR Advisors provide HR advice and service for a Provider service area or directorate. They also take an interest in a particular field of expertise where required. These roles play an active part in both the People & Culture team and relevant operational management team, building credibility by contributing to strategic and operational management as well as being the HR advisor for the directorate or area.
Senior HR Advisors are expected to provide leadership on HR matters for a directorate and also take the lead for in a particular field of expertise where required. These roles play an active part in both the Human Resources team and relevant operational management team, building credibility by adding value to strategic and operational management as well as being the HR specialist for the directorate or area.
Both Senior HR and HR Advisors are professional and collaborative team members; working closely with other Human Resources, People and Capability and Corporate Service staff to facilitate and lead effective implementation of people related projects, policies and processes.
Senior HR and HR Advisors are expected to apply the values of the organisation in everything they do; being role models for People and Culture as a professional and customer focussed service. They also need to be expert in the application of employment principles including those of good faith and the good employer.
A key part of your role is coaching and advising managers and staff in a way that builds HR capability across the organisation.
The role is responsible for contributing to P&C and organisational projects, ensuring services, practice and advice provided is accurate, high quality and aligned with the direction set for human resources services across the district.

The People & Culture (P&C) business unit comprises key functions that together lead the development and implementation of strategies, policies and initiatives to enable the Te Whatu Ora to deliver on their outcomes through and with its people in a rapidly changing environment.
The P&C business unit comprises the following functions:
- Human Resources
- Capability Development
- Organisational Development
- Health, Safety & Wellbeing.
The Senior HR and HR Advisor, Provider Services is a member of the People & Culture Provider Services HR team which has responsibility for supporting the people needs across the Hospital Provider services in Wellington and Hutt Valley.
Moū - About you
We are looking for someone to join our team who is dynamic, comfortable working in ambiguity, and ready to work in a face paced, ever changing environment. You will have:
- A tertiary qualification in an HR discipline and/or equivalent relevant experience
- Excellent relationship building skills to get to know the business and also influence best outcomes
- Sound knowledge of good ER practice with the practical ability to apply it within a complex organisation
- Proven experience advising on complex ER issues and wide range of employment solutions preferably in a public/government sector as an HR professional
- Ability to assess a situation based on HR best practice, knowledge of employment law, business needs and practical experience
