Charge Nurse, Ward26B - Medical Specialties, Starship Child Health

  • Full-time, permanent (40 hours per week)
  • Monday – Friday
  • Senior paediatric nursing position

Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
The Medical Specialties ward (26B) at Starship Hospital provides tertiary and quaternary care to children including treatment for long term and specialist medical conditions. We have a permanent opportunity for a Charge Nurse to join the service and predominantly work with the gastroenterology, renal and respiratory teams.

 As the Charge Nurse of Ward 26B you will be a highly motivated; progressive and innovative registered nurse with the ability to strengthen the nursing care delivery and work collaboratively within the resident teams. The team includes Specialist Physicians, Fellows, registrars, house officers, nurse specialists, a nurse educator and Registered Nurses who are all focused on improving the quality of care and providing a positive experience for children and their whānau.

We are Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand, Te Toka Tumai Auckland. We provide health and disability services to more than half a million people living in central Auckland, regional services for Northland and greater Auckland, and specialist national services for the whole of New Zealand. Our main sites are Auckland City Hospital, Greenlane Clinical Centre and Starship Children’s Hospital, located in central Auckland.

Starship Child Health is a dedicated paediatric healthcare service and major teaching centre, providing family centred care to neonates, children and young people throughout New Zealand and the South Pacific. Starship is a part of Te Toka Tumai | Auckland City Hospital and is the only comprehensive children’s hospital in New Zealand serving a population of approximately 1 million children.

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills

Your support will ensure our whānau, families, and communities thrive; and are committed to achieving equitable outcomes for Māori Health and supporting the mana of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and progress health equity. In addition, you will have:

  • A current APC with the NZ nursing council
  • Extensive experience in a paediatric nursing setting with at least Level 4 practice
  • A relevant postgraduate qualification
  • Excellent communication skills and on overriding passion for paediatric nursing
