Kaimanaaki at Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand Waitematā, Auckland

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

The purpose of the role is to promote and use Māori models of care (ngā kaupapa Māori mo te tiaki) and social work models that incorporate Māori dimension eg; Whanau (family), Wairua (spirituality), Tinana (body) and Hinengaro (mind) and enriches protection (tiakitanga), participation (kia mahi  tahi) and partnership (kanohi ki te kanohi) to ensure that Māori patients and their whanau who use our services have the same quality of outcome that is achieved by non-Māori patients.  
 
To tautoko thhe general aims and objectives of the Kaumātua of Waitematā DHB and Auckland DHB whose key role is to ensure Waitematā DHB and Auckland DHB observes tikanga protocols, particularly when supporting Waitematā DHB and Auckland DHB services and facilities development, including working with Māori, their whanau, hapu, iwi and the Māori community.
 
Key responsibilities:
  • Provide culturally safe practises aligned to the Treaty of Waitangi.
  • Whanau feel supported and confident that their cultural needs are being met.
  • Working effectively and collaboratively with other clinical teams to ensure excellent service delivery.
  • Contribute to the overall continuous quality improvement of the service.
  • Generating accurate monthly reports to managers as required.    
This role requires:
  • Strong communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Have experience working with Maori groups and in a Maori context.
  • Familiar with tikanga/cultural models of assessment.
  • Excellent relationship building, interpersonal skills and collaboration
You will likely have significant existing network within a Maori health environment in order to have the required credibility to further build and maintain positive relationships at all levels.
 
Tertiary qualifications in the social sciences beneficial.
