Enabling trusted government information: Te Rua Mahara o te Kāwanatanga Archives New Zealand sits within the Information and Knowledge Services branch, Te Haumi, the Department's epicentre of information management, culture and heritage. Our branch is all about collecting, storing and preserving important things that are precious to New Zealand.

We are looking for an experienced Advisor to support the Office of the Chief Archivist. You will work with the Principal Advisor, Office of the Chief Archivist and the Director Strategy to progress the organisation's priorities and report on outcomes. You will be responsible for supporting one of our external advisory groups. The role requires collaborating with colleagues across Archives New Zealand and the wider Department of Internal Affairs.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills - able to work under the pressure of multiple evolving demands without compromising quality or delivery.
  • Strong interpersonal skills - negotiation and influencing skills, able to adapt style and approach to audience.
  • An understanding of Te Ao Māori approaches and frameworks.
  • An understanding of the machinery of government, public-sector accountability framework, and planning and reporting in the public sector.

Today these currently include the National Library, Archives New Zealand, Ministerial Services, and the Gambling Commission. Each 'enterprise' has its own unique kaupapa, and through its 'partnership' with Te Tari Taiwhenua, will be supported to achieve their goals. The nature of each partnership will depend on the goals and needs of the entity.
